MICRO MOSAIC

Of Egyptian origin, the mosaic technique was scaled down and refined in Italy to finally become the Micro mosaic. During the 18th century many artisan shops located all over Rome and managed by people trained in the Vatican, were visited by numerous tourists who wanted to bring home a souvenir from the Eternal City. By the end of the 9th century there was a quality decline as handwork became too expensive. The Minute Mosaic may not be reproduced as it takes great skill and much time. Today Le Sibille is the only workshop in Italy to use the Micro mosaic technique in jewellery and reproduce faithfully this ancient tradition.
